Antique 7” Steel Sole Beech Smoothing Plane

Circa estimated 1800s to early 1900s

An antique steel sole 7” bench smoothing plane presented in clean used condition.
Complete with a good length graduated Ward & Payne cutter paired with a brass fitted Ward & Payne back iron.

This example has plenty of evidence of use with wear and tear and repair over its life. One of the wings has been tacked down, the steel on the heel is damaged and has been repaired, likely from tapping to set the iron with incorrect steel hammer, and various marks commensurate to it's considerable age.

Given its age and wear, sharpened it is a capable plane, pleasing in use and making nice thin shavings.
